Tree Removal

K2 and Dan did what they could with what they had, and we reached a point where they couldn't go any further. So I called a professional who had the right equipment and experience to take this old dead oak down.

Took about 2 hours to safely get it all down. We left 6 feet of trunk standing so a bull dozer can come in to push and uproot the remainder. Then we can level the ground and plant grass seed to finally have a backyard.

This is what it looked like this morning. K2 and Dan had already taken quite a few big branches off during the summer, but getting way up to the top was impossible.

Then the truck arrived, and they went to work in the man lift.

Cut all the small branches first with a small chainsaw attached at the end of a long pole.

Then he used a small chainsaw to cut off sections of the bigger branches.

The tree was over 65 feet tall.

When they got all the horizontal branches off,  it was time to start at the top...

...and cut piece...

...after piece...

...after piece, all the way down.

The man in the bucket lift cut off and dropped pieces to his partner on the ground who cut up the wood in 16" length for firewood. I'll have to borrow neighbor's log splitter to bust up the big round trunk parts. Notice the color of the 2 paddocks in the background. We moved the sheep and some cows out of well-grazed #2 on the right into the fresh green #1 on the left.

  4. Dan wont toot his own horn here...but my manly man did most of the tree limbing :) that's what outdoorsy cavemen are good for! K7 helped out a lot too. K2 came in at the very end and helped a little

  5. A grassy backyard will look great! Good job Dan-the-caveman! If it had been me, I would have taken an ax to it and push in the opposite direction from the gas tank. Then watch it fall and yell, timber! Afterward, cut it up with a chain saw. Now I want a tree to chop down, bacause I love a challenge :)
