Lunch at the Rock Cafe

Started with fried pickles - Yummy!

K8 was either not hungry or else he couldn't make up his mind. This is how he looked when our teenaged waitress came to take our order.

I got their Reuben sandwich, which is excellent.

Danny got the original burger basket with fries. And K8? He only wanted chocolate milk, so our waitress, who couldn't have been much older than K8, leaned over him and asked if he wanted the kid's size or the big boy size? He's looking at what turned out to be the "big boy" size. Can only imagine how small the kid's size must be...Of course, we razzed him all the way home about "big boy" chocolate milk!

Danny's first college football game

My best friend and college roommate Dan invited me to the Oklahoma vs West Virginia game last Saturday, so I brought my son-in-law Danny along to experience his first college game in the right environment - the OU stadium. Kick-off was at 6:00 P.M. and the temperature was in the 90's!

We had a slight breeze which helped cool the temps down to 86! I wore my usual red OU polo shirt, but no one sent me the memo that we were supposed to wear "white" shirts in our seating section so we could have this cool red & white color scheme. I bought Danny and Konnor red OU t-shirts to keep me company.

Danny seemed to enjoy the game. I didn't. OU's offense struggled mightily and only scored 16 points - the lowest number of points I have seen in a home game in many years. Fortunately, the defense allowed West Virginia only 7 points, so we escaped with an ugly win.

Water Boys

Wiley got his little fishing pole and was imitating his Dad. Unfortunately, he fell forward into the pond, but his face did not go under water. He was not happy and started to cry. I wasn't too sympathetic - I told him to get up, which he did with a little help.

K8 was sinking two cedar trees into the pond. He tied them each to a cement block with steel wire. Hopefully, the fish enjoy these new under water condominiums.

Fall haying

We bought 100 small square bales from a friend. Apparently, the boys lost count while loading the trailer.

Eventually settled upon a number and resumed loading. I drove the truck up and down the field while K7 and Tay loaded. K8 helped stack.

Finally done, which was good since the sun was setting. Time to secure the load by strapping it down.

Our friend's family was playing frisbee in the field, so they came over to help.

When the work was completed, the boys relaxed for a few minutes by playing frisbee. Had an hour of driving slow with this load, so we needed to get on the road. It was dark by the time we arrived home, so we left the loaded trailer sitting in the corral to be unloaded Wednesday morning after Seminary class.

K7 would throw several off the trailer, then help me stack.

K8 also helped, but I sent him over to the pig pen to clean out the water trough and refill it.

After we got it all stacked, K7 said we had exactly 100 bales! The storage shed could take another 30 bales. We have 11 more big round bales still coming, which, added to our 24 other big bales, should take us through a hard winter, especially if we sell two steers.

K8's Happy Birthday

K8 celebrated his 14th B-day last week. We had a few families join us for supper and fun.

Mom made chicken stir-fry to feed 22 people.

After supper, folks chatted and played "Apples to Apples", after which we ate cookies and cake.  It was a great evening. Need to do it again real soon.

Testing homeschoolers

A couple of home schoolers at a local library taking the final exam for their  BYU independent study math courses (her's is Geometry, his is Algebra I). Wish I had my regular camera, because I can never seem to take good pics with my iPhone.
