Fall haying

We bought 100 small square bales from a friend. Apparently, the boys lost count while loading the trailer.

Eventually settled upon a number and resumed loading. I drove the truck up and down the field while K7 and Tay loaded. K8 helped stack.

Finally done, which was good since the sun was setting. Time to secure the load by strapping it down.

Our friend's family was playing frisbee in the field, so they came over to help.

When the work was completed, the boys relaxed for a few minutes by playing frisbee. Had an hour of driving slow with this load, so we needed to get on the road. It was dark by the time we arrived home, so we left the loaded trailer sitting in the corral to be unloaded Wednesday morning after Seminary class.

K7 would throw several off the trailer, then help me stack.

K8 also helped, but I sent him over to the pig pen to clean out the water trough and refill it.

After we got it all stacked, K7 said we had exactly 100 bales! The storage shed could take another 30 bales. We have 11 more big round bales still coming, which, added to our 24 other big bales, should take us through a hard winter, especially if we sell two steers.

  1. It's heavy work loading, unloading, and stacking bales of hay! And I thought it was tough to carry heavy grass sawed as a teen. Those boys are building good muscle.
And the the training I received as a youth just helped when I took on bigger responsibility as an adult. : )
