How do you quickly clear a fence line in the forrest?

With a big bull dozer of course! It makes quick work of it. This was last week on the western boundary of our property.

Saturday, after the camp-out and shooting guns, the boys and I disconnect the old wire fence from the steel t-posts. Had to get it done because the bull dozer was coming back early Monday morning to clear the other side of the fence line.

K7 and K8 had to use pliers to remove the clips holding the old wire onto the posts. Some of the t-posts were easy to reach...

...some of the t-posts were hard to reach...

...some of the t-posts were really hard to reach through thorny brambles. We also got bug bites on our arms, because the temperature has been warm 70's. Much prefer working in cold weather in this kind of brush. WE also had to be on guard for snakes.

But we got all the t-posts. Re-using them on our new fence line will save us almost $200.

Unique looking white oak tree - no branches on the righthand (west) side. They are all on the lefthand (east) side of trunk.

Yesterday morning, we hand spread three, 50-pound bags of winter rye seed on the fresh dirt before the rain comes Friday, so we can get grass growing to hold the soil in place, and provide good food for our cows the next few months after we get the fence up (not to mention the grass will help attract deer to this area).

There are still a few big rocks in the ground.

But the bull dozer got most of them out of the ground. The Boy Scouts also have lots of trees to cut up for firewood this winter, and maybe next winter.

    1. This is a different area than the Green Grass area, which is on the east side of the farm. This is the new fence line on e the west boundary side, but we also threw rye grass seed on this. Should be coming up later this week.
