Stream clean-up

It was cold early last week, and a another storm was due later this day. I took an unwilling K8 out to finish clearing the stream of logs. A heavy rain could move these derelict logs down stream and break our fence across the west side of our property. We can't make money if all our livestock escapes!

Dandy tagged along. Yes, we got that log behind her.

K8 had the job of wrapping the chain around each log, and I drove the tractor to drag them out one at a time.

K8 would have been happier if he had dressed properly, but he chose his wardrobe for this assignment. Wearing shorts and working without gloves or wool socks on a cold day in a cold stream was not a good idea. I kept him out there until the job got done, so I think he learned a valuable lesson.

Our haul? We got 8 logs of varying size which will be cut for firewood or burned on a brush pile depending on their quality.

As an added bonus, we found this hunk of old metal hidden on the bank. We can sell it as scrap metal for a small profit. Next week we will spread grass and clover seed over this muddy strip of land between the paddocks and the stream to create a new, future grazing area for cows, sheep, deer, and wild turkey.
