Mother and daughter

K2 picked up our new calf and gave it a close inspection. He says it is a baby girl - a heifer. K5 is visiting us for the week and suggested we name the calf "Forsella" (For Sell). Maybe. What do you think?

Darlin is an excellent Momma cow. She gave birth out in the open pasture during a fierce thunder storm, and has taken great care of her first born.

These photos were taken Saturday when the calf was 2 days old.

No, not a duplicate shot. This picture was taken immediately before the previous photo, before the camera made the adjustment from leaving the "cold" air conditioned house and out into the warm and slightly muggy evening air. The colors in the previous shot are brighter. I had to delete most of the pictures before this one because they were all foggy. I am using K7's Sanyo camera until further notice, but still not used to it.

Is it just me or does this calf have the face of a baby pig?

Some new Momma cows can be aggressive in protecting their new-born, but K2 and his cousins had no problem approaching Darlin and her baby. The only one chased away from calf was little Belle (our smallest Papillon). Percy the goat is also giving her a wide berth.
