Making hay

I hired an Amish farmer to hay my paddocks last week. We got 24 large round bales.

  1. Very cool! I didn't think you could get hay with how the animals on your property eat it down. It must have rained a lot to grow quickly.

  3. I would have had more paddocks hayed if I had moved the cattle across the stream to the hillside. Couldn't because we had two huge storms with 6" of rain each that twice broke the fencing across both ends of the stream. After Boy Scout summer camp, the boys will install a new, improved water gap fence that should hold up much better. The paddock being hayed in this pic plus the lush paddock behind it total about 4 acres. The grass was thin because I don't use chemical fertilizers and I had the sheep flock on it past few months.
