The old Nordic Chapel that served many merchant sailors from Scandinavia. This photo is out of order - it is near the docks where we ended our tour at the end of the day. |
We departed St James Cathedral and strolled through the city headed ultimately for the docks. |
This is a plaque inside the Symphonic Music Hall commemorating the musicians on the Titanic who continued to play soothing music as the ship sank. Powerful. |
Look at the lettering in the white blocks dividing the upper and lower windows, and the designs in the upper windows to figure out what this building is. A fairly old specimen. |
Wish we had time to take this one-hour driving tour of the city with the Yellow Duck. |
The driver was quite humorous. We'll see one of these vehicles again later... |
Lunch stop at Cuthbert's. |
Check out the third special down from the top. They must have known I was coming for a visit. Apparently it is a creamy dessert - I didn't try one. |
Instead I went for the homemade chocolate cake with fresh cream and a glass of milk. |
We had our lunch of soup and sandwich out in the sunny backyard. |
Then next door for a rest and digest our tummies while browsing for books. |
Gerrod, the owner, gave KT a silver coin for luck when he found out she was getting married next month. They were kindred spirits and chatted the whole time. |
I couldn't resist taking this picture of a miniature Statue of Liberty above the bar sign. We actually did go into two old pubs to look at their ornate ceiling designs. |
Lime Street Train station. |
A magnificent stained glass window in the St George Court Building |
The large Hall below the stained glass window. |
How about this elegant toilet with an old fashioned pull chain. |
Downtown was emptying out since it was close to 5 P.M. |
What a ceiling! |
The Liver Building down near the docks. The Liver Bird is a mythical creature that looks very much like a cormorant. There is a Liver Bird at the top of each end of the building. |
The Dock Building... |
An art deco Amelia Earhart. She was an American aviator who mysteriously disappeared in 1937 while flying around the world. |
City Hall |
Looking back from the seawall along the Mersey River. The Dock Building on the right had some beautiful architecture outside and inside... |
In the main lobby, looking up to second floor. Read the sentence... |
...then look up to the inside of the dome several floors up... |
Taken while I was standing and looking up... |
Taken while I was lying on floor dead center. |
The Albert Docks. Liverpool's wealth was built on the slave trade, and later cotton and lumber, as well as passengers. |
This statue is in memory of the thousands of Latter Day Saints who took ship from Europe on their way to America in the 1800's. |
Another Yellow Duck finishing its tour... |
...with a splash! |
They are old World War II amphibious vehicles. The drivers are very entertaining as we could hear him putting the fear and fun into the tourists just before they splashed. |
You can see St James Cathedral in the background. We walked several miles this day. |
We walked back to Carol's clinic where we met her son Lawrence who is a history lecturer. He begins work on his PhD this year. |
Bravo on the photography with commentary....entertaining journey shared. The photo lying on your back of the dome is a kaleidoscope of creativity. Colorful job Mac.
